We had the chance to catch up with the booming artist,
Marc Broussard. He's got songs on TV, he's playing the
Rock Boat again, and has shows coming up with Dave Matthews.
Read on for more!
Congrats
on the release of your CD, Carencro. It's neat to hear
you on the radio, TV and in movies after following you
for quite some time. Has your life since the release
and since being signed changed dramatically from where
you thought you'd be right now?
I am exactly where I hoped I would be. I'm fortunate
to be doing what I love most and what I've always envisioned
doing. I can't really ask for anything more.
My life hasn't really changed too drastically other
than the fact that I'm trying to stay present. I really
try and stay aware of my surroundings and the people
around me and those that mean most to me. I've definitely
learned how to maintain those relationships while I'm
on the road. It's so important to.
What is your favorite track on the album.
With no doubt its "Let Me Leave." That song
lyrically and emotionally is the best window into my
life.
You're now headlining shows — how does that
feel and what do you pass on to your opening acts?
Headlining is always very gratifying. You have more
control over the night. Instead of only playing a few
songs as an opener you have the opportunity to feel
out the crowd more and see where you want to take them
next.
There are no real words of wisdom for opening acts
other than be nice to everyone you meet. I was given
that advice early on and it has really stuck with me.
I'd also tell them to have a good time - when you're
having fun on stage it translates into the audience
having fun as well.
Any plans for a live CD or your next release?
I record every show and have live CDs available after
each night's set. We probably have 230 live CDs recorded.
Eventually I'd love to put together a live DVD, hopefully
sometime in the very near future.
Very cool. So is touring the main priority right
now?
Touring though is absolutely the priority right now
- its way to early to start thinking about another album.
I'll be working on Carencro hopefully for another year.
I really want Carencro to get the look it deserves.
In the meanwhile I'll continue my headline tour. I'll
also be playing at various festivals like JazzFest and
will also meet up with the Dave Matthews Band for a
few dates.
Sweet! Who would you like to tour with that you
have not had the opportunity to yet?
I would have to say Stevie Wonder. Sometimes on tour,
even if you're a fan of the artists you are touring
with, you eventually become accustomed to the music.
Stevie Wonder is someone I would never get tired of.
So I'm flipping through the channels and there you
are on A&E. Tell us about that!
A&E was a great experience. As soon as we got to
their studios I realized that this performance was a
great way to reach a new audience. 18-25 year olds aren't
normally awake at that time so it was exciting to know
that I was about to reach new people. A&E is also
a very prestigious network so it was an honor to be
a part of that.
What do you do with your time when you're not touring,
any hobbies?
I get very little time off so when I do I like to hang
out with my family and friends. I treasure that time.
When I'm home I go to the Big Easy in Carencro... eat
hamburgers and crawfish!
You have a dedicated batch of fans. Do you still
get to spend time with them after shows like you used
to?
I'm not going to lie...there was a period that I didn't
go to the merch table after each show. I quickly realized
I didn't have to necessarily go to the table, I could
just hang out and mingle more in the crowd. It doesn't
have to be so formal. So I definitely still do that.
I love to get out there and meet my fans.
Are you Rock Boating this year? (http://www.therockboat.com)
Absolutely - I'm so excited about it. The Rock Boat
was a blast last year. I'm especially looking forward
to it since Will Hoge and my camp will be there. We
are all close so it will be fun.
