September 15, 2003 — Week 3 of our promotion continues for the newest emerging artist compilation album, Decent Xposure. And we're introducing a new contest this week so you can win your copy of the CD - absolutely free. Congratulations to Eli Riveire from Bloomington, Indiana, who won a copy of the album during our Week 2 contest.

I Need Some Time
Oval Opus

This song off their album, Red Sky Recovery, shines because the lyrics are filled with simple wisdom, and the music is alternative semi-grunge meets the sincere songwriter with guitar in hand. We all need time to regroup, and Oval Opus brings this situation to life with a song chock full of smooth electric guitar riffs and sailing percussion. This is the kind of therapeutic song that gets you through a rough time…simply by existing, by the band having the courage to put it out there. It's a promising preview of the rest of the album, so enticing you'll want to buy it upon listening to this track.

The Bones Underneath
Averi
This song introduces us to another artist with a smooth sound and heartfelt lyrics. Upon listening, I'd want to pick up the album. The lyrics are what gripped me first, as Averi sings, “Please wake me up from this bad dream/So I'll find myself/Where you remember me.” In addition, the jazzy horn interludes gives this song it's electrifying charm; it's a tune that picks you up as you seek yourself. I'm a sucker for a song that's honest, and presents vulnerability in an attractive way…and this song intrigues me.

‘81 Camaro
Julius Bragg

Nope. There is no guy with the tasty name of Julius Bragg in this four-piece modern adult rock band from Michigan. You'll have to head over to their website to find out how they concocted this funky name. This song is kind of nostalgic for those who existed in the early 80s and can remember that far back to enjoy it. In it, the quartet sings about a beloved car and the memories made in it. Am I digging the lyrics? Not really. They're a bit repetitive and I can't relate because I'm not a car person. But…and I emphasize but…their sound is dynamic and upbeat, a whirlwind of guitars and rock-n-roll drum rolls. Upon hearing this one, I'm interested in hearing more from this group. Just because I don't have a thing for Camaros doesn't mean that I won't like the rest of their tunes.
