September 29, 2003 — This is the last
week we will be individually reviewing the songs on
the CD. You can still win copies, by entering our contest.
This week, check out Pete Schmidt, MER and Melbourne!
Pete Schmidt
Make It Up to You Because
I'm already a fan of Pete Schmidt, seeing his
name added to this compilation makes it all the better.
Schmidt has a dreamy voice as he belts, "I sit
here and think about what I had/Oh, and maybe sometimes,
if I could have it back/But when I see other people
doing what we did/Do you think about us?" This
is a heartfelt song, romantic and apologetic in nature,
and it doesn't need a wailing background band
to convey it's sentiment. Schmidt's soulful
vocals and the lyrics alone make it a gem on the collection.
MER
Revealed
I'd
never heard this band before listening to the compilation,
and I have to say…they're great. A smooth
hard rock jamming sound abounds as the electric guitars
rage on. Vocals are great and so is the beat, as the
lead singer chimes, "So now I've been revealed/When
I should have kept it all concealed." It's
not really a song full of heated emotion, although lyrically,
it's about romance and second chances. The band
got a good electric kind of sound, surely worthy of
the exposure this album will bring them.
Melbourne
Alyson
If
you like the happy love songs with a hard rock edge,
this song is for you. The band has a great modern rock
vibe, similar to that of Graham Colton or Staind. It
features a great bridge section with that electrically
foggy sound on the vocals. It's refreshing to
hear a hard rock song that's based on a positive
note. After hearing this, I would definitely want to
hear more from the band, which has the potential to
make it big.
