Duncan Sheik is showing just how much of a ladies
man he is as he embarks on The Yellow Umbrella Tour.
Ben Folds wants to join in, too.
Created by PopSmear.org,
the goal of the Tour is to bring awareness and information
to women around the country about cervical cancer and
the virus that causes it, HPV. PopSmear.org's founder,
Christine Baze, was diagnosed with invasive cervical
cancer in 2000. Baze knew that thousands of women were
facing this battle each year, and organized a benefit
concert and called it Pop Smear (2002). It's
tremendous success led to The Yellow Umbrella Tour,
a series of concerts around North America intended to
raise the awareness about cervical cancer prevention.
Participating on the Yellow Umbrella Tour has given
me the chance to not only perform with other musicians
I admire, commented Duncan Sheik, it has allowed me
to use my music to help women across the country potentially
avoid a serious health problem.
In its third year, the Yellow Umbrella Tour
features Ben Folds, Sarah Bettens of Ks Choice, David
Poe, and The Fray. Dates run through November, so be
sure to visit www.yellowumbrellatour.com/tour.html
for more.
